Building Your First Application: Part 1 - Setting Up

Before you can start writing your fantastic API code, you will first need to set up some information within the Printfection website to both identify yourself, and then to define how things are going to work with your application.

The first thing you will need is a Printfection user account. You don't need to have any stores or products set up at this stage, just an account. If you don't already have one, you can set up your account here. Its absolutely free.

Once you have confirmed your account details, or if you have already have an account, you need to begin setting up your API key. You can click here, or click on the big blue "Request API" button on the top right of the Printfection Developer Center.

From there, you will need to provide some information about you and your application. Once you have entered your details and a description, you need to make some decisions. Firstly, are you building a web application or one for the desktop. For this tutorial, we are building a web application, so select that.

Then you will need to set up the maximum permissions that you application will require. We will go through permissions in more detail down the track. If you want to read more, you can download the Permissions document.

For this tutorial, we will need to be able to upload images to an image set, create a product and add it to a cart. For this, we need the following permissions:

  • Stores: Write
  • Image Sets: Write
  • Add Store: None
  • Add Image Set: None
  • Root Products: Read
  • Carts: Write

For the final part of this step, you will need to read and agree to the Printfection Developer Terms of Service and to the Printfection Developer Copyright and Intellectual Property Rights Policy. Click on the Request API button, and you are ready for Day 2 - Authenticating your Application.
